Randy Johnson “Second Effort” Scholarship Award

The Kiwanis Club of Lauderdale Lakes Randy Johnson “Second Effort” Scholarship Award is named in honor of the first African American Governor of the Kiwanis District of Florida. Randy Johnson brought a “FEVER” for service to the office of Governor. He demonstrated a particular passion for the BUG (Bring Up Grades) program. This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating student who resides in Broward County and who has been accepted to a college or university as a result of their “second effort” in attaining academic success. This student should have demonstrated throughout their secondary education, significant community service activities of benefit to the school and/or the community. The award will be determined on the basis of academic achievement, financial need, community service, and the applicant’s character as demonstrated by their essay along with their letters of recommendation.
